Solar Eclipse Special Programming at Tangi Library

Solar Eclipse Special Programming at Tangi Library

In preparation of the solar eclipse set to occur August 21, Tangi Library will host programs that are space-themed and provide information about the eclipse. In addition to hosting programs in-house, library programmers will also be providing outreach programs at local Tangipahoa Parish schools to spread awareness about the eclipse.

The library was awarded a grant from STAR_NET Libraries to receive 1,000 eclipse glasses meant for viewing the eclipse.

By coming to programs at the library and the outreaches at the schools, people will be able to obtain a pair of glasses to safely view the eclipse.

The library will also have class packs of 35 glasses available to teachers in Tangipahoa Parish on a first come, first serve basis.

If interested, teachers should contact Misty Noble-Hodge at mnoble-hodge@tangilibrary.com by August 13 and stop by their local branch to pick up their glasses before the 21st.

Director Barry Bradford is very excited about this project, stating, “We are very proud to take part in educating our patrons about this impending astronomical spectacle. These programs may stimulate an interest in space and science, and the library is a great place to learn about these subjects.”

To celebrate the total solar eclipse, the branches will have special DIY projects, vivid story-time sessions, and awesome adventure club activities leading up to the eclipse. The full schedule is available here.
