“Shrek the Musical Jr.” Auditions to Be Held April 17, 2016

Acting Upon Faith Productions Director Brent Goodrich and First Presbyterian Church of Hammond proudly announce auditions for their summer musical, Shrek The Musical Jr., on Sunday, April 17, 2016 between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. in Anderson Hall, located on the church grounds at 411 W Charles Street in Hammond.A $5 audition fee will be charged, and registration forms are available for download at www.aufproductions.com for young people entering 6th through 12th grade next school year.

Auditions will be structured as a learning opportunity. Those auditioning should come prepared to sing up to two musical theatre songs that best showcase their individual voice and acting abilities. Students must bring the mp3 instrumental tracks or sheet music for their selected audition songs. Students also will be taught a piece of choreography during the audition process to evaluate dancing ability.

The cast list will be posted to www.aufproductions.com by April 30, 2016. Tuition of $75 is due upon role acceptance. Limited scholarships will be available, and scholarship application forms can be downloaded at www.aufproductions.com.

Rehearsals will begin in May and culminate with performances June 23-25, 2016, all in Anderson Hall.

Shrek The Musical Jr. is based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and Broadway musical. Everyone’s favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and shares a powerful message appropriate for the entire family about true acceptance in the process.

Brent Goodrich is an accomplished pianist and alumnus of Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) with bachelor and master’s degrees in vocal performance. He has appeared in numerous SLU Opera/Music Theatre Workshop productions, including, most recently, The Mikado (Pooh-Bah). Other SLU productions include: the world premiere of Evangeline(Father Felician); Opera by the Slice (Gianni Schicchi); Sweeney Todd (Judge Turpin); Pirates of Penzance (Major General); and Hansel and Gretel (Peter).  While at SLU, he assistant directed It’s Only Life, directed scene work from Christoph Gluck’sOrfeo ed Euridice, taught a voice class and performed with the Concert Choir as a featured soloist in Bach’s “Aus der Tiefen” BMV 131, Handel’s “Messiah,” and Olin Blitch’s solo from Floyd’s “Susannah.”  Goodrich also has appeared in productions and scene work with the McNeese State University “Sidedoor Co.,” including: Don Pasquale (Malatesta), Guys and Dolls (Sky Masterson), Le nozze di Figaro (Figaro), Cosi fan tutte (Gugliemo) and A Retrospective Tribute: The Operas of Keith Gates (Huck Finn).  He performed in the 2014 season of Opera in the Ozarks (OIO) and worked as the tour manager for the OIO studio company at Inspiration Point and Fine Arts Colony. While at OIO, Goodrich performed in Gianni Schicchi (Marco) and in scene work from Street Scene.  Regionally, Goodrich has performed with Playmakers Theatre in Covington (Jekyll and Hyde), served as the musical director of Schoolhouse Rock! for 30 x Ninety Theatre in Mandeville, and assisted with musical direction of the Holy Ghost Catholic School Spirit of the Stage’s production of Peter Pan Jr.

Acting Upon Faith Productions offers faith-based performing arts education for children and teens under the tutelage of the First Presbyterian Church of Hammond. Voice and piano lessons are offered, and students are given the opportunity to perform in recitals and musical theatre productions, as well as make a difference through community service.
