2016 Christmas Parades & Activities in Our Area – FULL MONTH

CHRISTMAS PARADES – 2016

Friday, Dec 2, 2016: Hammond Christmas Parade
  • 6 pm start time
  • Theme: “A Starry Christmas”
  • Parade starts at the corner of University Blvd. and General Pershing, then proceeds south on General Pershing, turns left onto West Church St., right on N. Magnolia, left on West Thomas. Then proceeds two blocks and takes left on SW Railroad Ave. Follows SW Railroad Ave onto North Oak St., then left on University to end at the University Center. Click here for parade route map.
  • Check out “The Zone” – a fun and safe place for families to enjoy the Christmas Parade, held on Gen. Pershing near the Pennington Center (SLU Rec Center) from 4:30-6 pm. Free activities and face painting. Children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult. No pets, no alcohol. Bring lawn chairs.

Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016: Tickfaw Christmas Parade and Santa Pictures

Monday, Dec. 5, 2016: Springfield Christmas Parade

  • 7 pm start time
  • Parade begins at the AmVet Hall at the corner of Hwy 42 & Hwy 43.
  • ***Due to rainy conditions, Springfield Town Officials have decide to postpone the Springfield Christmas Parade scheduled for Monday, December 5.  Nee date TBA.

Friday, December 9, 2016: Independence Christmas Parade (RESCHEDULED from 12/4)

  • 6 pm start time
  • Starts at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church and ends on East Railroad Ave at Community Pavilion.
  • Parade will be followed by the official Christmas Tree Lighting

Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016: Folsom’s Horse & Wagon Christmas Parade

  • 1 pm start time
  • Theme is ‘Christmas in the Country’
  • Route starts by coming up by Magnolia Park, down Austin Street, up Canton St., then makes the block down Olive St., comes up by Don Juan’s, crosses Hwy 25, then goes all the way around by First Baptist Church. Then straight down Broadway St., crossing Hwy 25 again by Gene’s Tire Pro, then comes straight back down to Austin St.

  • Open nightly Dec. 2 – Dec. 25 from 6 – 9 pm

  • Drive through or take a walk through the “Children’s Playland” light display.
  • The train will run for free on Fridays (Dec. 2, 9, and 16) from 6 – 9 pm; and on Saturdays and Sundays (Dec. 3, 4, 10, 11, 17 and 18) from 5 – 9 pm. The last day for the train is December 18.

  • Come stroll the streets of Ponchatoula and enjoy shopping in a variety of shops while listening to local choirs and bands.

Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016: 4th Annual Reindeer Run for Restoration House 

  • Starts at 8:30 am
  • Memorial Park in Ponchatoula
  • This is a family-oriented and Christmas themed race. All proceeds benefit Restoration Pregnancy Resource Center of Hammond.  The race features medals and t-shirts for participants, and lots of fun Christmas surprises! Santa Claus will be there and food and beverages from local vendors will be available as part of the registration fee.

Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016: Winter Wonderland at St. Joseph Catholic Church in French Settlement

  • Food festival featuring selection of local favorites: chicken and andouille gumbo, seafood gumbo, jambalaya, chicken fettuccini, pastalaya, fried fish, seafood pistolettes, boudin balls, chicken tenders, hamburgers, french fries and a Sweet Shop with a large selection of homemade candy, cookies and cakes.   • Tickets are $25/per child and includes an ornament craft to take home, a souvenir elf, and a photo package which will consist of your choice of 2 sheets of photos. Only  20 tickets per hour will be sold.
